Helen Poole

In 1990, when I was nursing in a hospice in Cornwall, God called me to be a priest. The call was totally unexpected and a powerful reminder that God really is a God of surprises! Ordained on the Feast of St.Thomas in 1995 I went on to ministry in 3 very different parishes in the far South West of England. Now retired and moving to Guildford , how lovely it has been, to be made so welcome and to be invited to join the clergy team.
Route to Ordination:
Oporto, Brighton, Paris, London, Vienna, Wiesbaden, Chalfont St Peter, St.Levan
Inspirations en route:
Brighton Parish Church, St.George’s Hospital, Thames Valley Hospice,
St.Julia’s Hospice, Healing Ministry, Parish Ministry, my husband, and my 3 children. And so many wise and Christlike people on the way, where to begin?
Perhaps with these words which reflect my own faith so well and chosen
by Dame Cicely Saunders in her book, Beyond the Horizon:
I have seen death too often to believe in death.
It is not an ending, but a withdrawal.
As one who finishes a long journey,
stills the motor, turns off the lights,
Steps from his car and walks up the path
to the home that awaits him.
