Like many of you my working life has always been full of people, sometimes in need, sometimes making demands, sometimes being competitive, often being loving.  I spent forty years in the secular world, working briefly in the colonial service in the Solomon Islands, and then for many years helping run four of the colleges of the University of London.  At times I have sought solitude from the demands of daily life and then my wife Anne and I go off to some wilderness and walk in the mountains.  I have spent a long time pondering faith, both my own and that of the peoples of the world whom I encountered.  In the late 1990’s I was encouraged by the parish to offer myself for the ordained ministry.  After a prayerful tussle, I did offer myself, and I was ordained in 2003 to serve this parish.  I am very blessed in this ministry and take great joy in it.  I love my church, I love my faith; I love Christ.

Since 2007 I have been an Assistant Director of Ordinands for the Diocese of Guildford which means I interview men and women who believe they have a vocation to the ordained ministry.  I also serve on the Board of Governors of STETS (the Southern Theological Education and Training Scheme) and of HeythropCollege (the University of London’s theological college).

I love cities; I love the natural world; I love being with people; I love great writing, and the not so great; I stand in awe of great art; I am at my happiest listening to music, particularly Mozart, Schubert, and Wagner.  I believe also in the potency of cheap music.

I married Anne in 1983 and together we enjoy our family and our friends, gardening, walking, theatre, music, restaurants and travel.
