Social Events

At Holy Trinity & St. Mary’s, there is a history of a varied and enjoyable social life, ranging from barbecues and quiz nights to harvest suppers and barn dances. Sometimes these are arranged by individual groups, such as the choirs or those working with young people – some are fundraising events (for example our African evening prior to the parish trip to the Highveld), and some are purely for fellowship and enjoyment. In particular, ordinations and valedictions are usually marked by a bring-and-share meal – confirmation and first communion are followed by refreshments. We have built up a pool of loyal helpers so that the burden is more widely shared.

Before the refurbishment of the Trinity Centre, the only large space available was Holy Trinity Church itself – with moveable chairs, this provided a beautiful venue and it was worth the effort. However, the upstairs hall in the Trinity Centre is now available and the kitchen facilities are extremely good, making catering much easier to arrange.

The normal pattern of events is a date in the spring when parish supper parties take place in people’s homes, followed by a daytime event in the summer and an evening event in the autumn. Recently these have been supplemented by quiz nights and concerts, and events at St Mary’s such as a parish music evening. Details of all forthcoming events are published in the weekly newsletter and the parish mailing, but if anyone has any queries they are welcome to get in touch. Offers of help or suggestions are always gratefully received.
