Outreach
Outreach at Holy Trinity and St Mary’s is an important part of the parish vision; in seeking to be a faithful and hospitable worshipping community, various groups within the parish mark our commitment to the needs of the wider world. The current activities that cluster under the Outreach umbrella include :
- An established parish link with the Diocese of the Highveldt in South Africa; a visit by clergy and parishioners to some of the partner groups in the diocese took place in August 2008. We plan to welcom a group from the Parish of St Peter's and St Paul's Springs, Diocese of the Highveld in September 2011.
- Supporting local and national charities through prayer, parish links and regular donations. The PCC supports the policy that outward giving should be a certain percentage of our parish income. A twice monthly Sunday Traidcraft stall selling fairly traded consumable items. We actively support Traidcraft and the Fair Trade Foundation by regularly buying fairly traded goods for use within the two churches and promoting the issues relating to fair trade and economic injustice.
- Opening our two historic and beautiful churches outside Sunday worship through a weekday stewarding rota, concerts and other community events to welcome neighbours and visitors
- Publicising our Christmas and Easter services to the town and parish
- Encouraging Holy Trinity and St Mary’s to work with Churches Together in Guildford for the annual Christian Aid week, and other local projects such as Street Angels.
