Fundraising

The Parish of Holy Trinity and St Mary’s supports two Grade 1 Listed Churches in the centre of Guildford. The Churches have charitable status but do not receive any funding from the state. The day to day operation of the Parish costs in the region of £700 a day without taking into account essential restoration and maintenance projects that must also be funded, to preserve these important buildings in the centre of Guildford for generations to come.

The day to day operation of the Parish is mainly funded through Planned Giving from members of the congregation and from income generated from the hiring out of our buildings. However, for essential restoration and maintenance projects it is necessary to seek funding from other sources although during 2009 emergency repairs were completed to the West Wall at St Mary’s Church at a cost of £120,000 mainly using our own reserves.

The Parish is now involved in two other major projects which require external financial support. At Holy Trinity, after many years, planning permission was received to provide ramped access from the High Street to Trinity Churchyard. This will not only enable access to Holy Trinity Church, and the separate Trinity Centre building, without having to climb the existing steps but will also enable the public access from Sydenham Road car park at the top of the Churchyard down to the High Street, and back again without having to use the steps. This therefore is an important amenity for the whole town.

At St Mary's further urgent repairs are required to St John's Chapel  where water from inadequate gutters has damaged the 12th century stonework. The circular ends of the two chapels are very early examples of apses in parish churches.

General donations are also gratefully received and visitors will find donation boxes inside both churches. Alternatively donations may be made through the Parish Office. The Parish Office can be contacted on:

In recent years the Parish has held major fundraising campaigns to refurbish the interior of Holy Trinity and to refurbish the fine organs in both churches. Donations are always welcome to enable us to maintain the fabric of the buildings and to maintain and improve the organs. Elsewhere on this website you can read about the fine music traditions of the Parish and donations in support of the Music and choirs will help to maintain these traditions.

Please remember that if you are a UK tax payer you can gift aid your donation which will increase its value to the Parish by 28%. The Parish Office will provide all the details you need.
