Rod Pierce, Assistant Curate
Born and brought up in Fleet, Hants, where I was involved with the local
church and youth club for many years, I was educated at Farnborough Grammar
school and employed for almost 30 years by a High Street Bank. I worked
at many local branches during this time, finishing up as a Manager within
the Basingstoke group of branches. I moved to Guildford in 1980, and met
my wife, Ann, a long-serving member of the Holy Trinity community. We
married at St Mary's Guildford in 1984 and have two daughters, who have
both finished university. Since joining St Mary's
and Holy Trinity Parish, I have always felt very much at home here.
After redundancy and leaving banking, I joined Surrey County Council,
still in a finance capacity, working for the Social Services and HR Departments
where I am still employed full-time.
After selection for Ministry training, I studied on a part-time basis,
and was ordained as an 'ordained local minister' deacon in July 2006,
and priested a year later. As I am in paid employment, I offer part-time
weekend and evening service to the Parish, while continuing my ministry
studies.
Both Ann and I are active church bellringers,
and my other interests include continental railways, mountain scenery,
butterflies and photography.
