Holy Trinity: A Georgian Parish
A new book by Mary Alexander on the church in the 18th century
Holy Trinity: A Georgian Parish tells the story of the fall and rise of the church from 1695 to 1780 and of the people who struggled to rebuild it after the collapse of 1740. How exactly did the church fall down? Read about everyone who was involved, from the women who cleaned the church to the mayor who gave the bells. Meet Widow Parker knitting stockings for orphans, men mowing the grass in the churchyard, the men who made the bricks and laid them, the London architect and the Guildford builder, the churchwardens who worked heroically to find the money for re-building the church and who fell out with the rector over it.
