Holy Trinity & St. Mary's
Welcome to our parish in the heart of historic Guildford.
Christian Aid Week: 13–19 May 2012
Let’s give the tools to help people in poverty out of poverty
Today is the beginning of Christian Aid Week in the UK and Ireland, seven days of fundraising, prayer and action against global poverty. Christian Aid currently works with local partner organisations in 47 countries around the world - from Sierra Leone to Tajikistan, from Kenya to Bolivia - helping communities to make their voices heard and look towards a brighter future.
This Christian Aid Week, some 100,000 volunteers will take part in Britain’s largest house-to-house collection demonstrating as a community that we care about poverty and justice. Some exciting news this year is that the UK Department for International Development (DFID), has agreed to match the first £5 million raised.
Christian Aid envelopes will be available at both churches on Sunday morning for those who would like to contribute from the congregation (please Gift Aid wherever possible). Take a spare envelope for any friends or neighbours you think would like to donate, for return to the Parish Office by the end of Saturday 19 May.
The house-to-house collection in our parish this week is part of our commitment to Christian Aid. We pray for all those involved with this year's collection, either with the preparation, collection or count: Vicky Barlow, Yvonne Cameron, Geoff David, Priscilla Dobbs, Elizabeth Ferris, Margaret Foulkes, Jane Gillbe, Jan Hancock, Laura Hastings, Venetia & Roger Howes, Noel Jefferis, Bridget & Andrew Jobson, Anne-Marie & Mark Lovatt, Alwyn Marriage, Alison Ney and Mara Uzzell.
